What is Work Ready Extra?

Secure your future with Work Ready Extra! Work Ready Extra is a study programme for young people aged 16 to 18, which allows you to gain the qualifications, experience and skills you need to set you on your chosen career path.

What are the benefits of Work Ready Extra?

Enrolling on the Work Ready Extra programme means you will gain Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications. These qualifications are recognised by all employers, meaning you will have an ever wider array of employment opportunities.

You will also get to do a 22 week work experience placement. A work experience placement will not only add to your CV, but will arm you with practical transferable skills and professional experience that will make you an asset to any business.  Work Ready Extra allows you to get stuck into to your work experience placement so you are clued up on what’s involved in your career sector – whether it be in a shop, salon or plumber’s merchants!

What qualifications will I get?

Work Ready Extra allows you to attain Level 1 and Level 2 Qualifications. These are nationally accredited City & Guilds and Edexcel qualifications, which are 100% recognised by employers.

What do you learn?

Some things that you will learn from your Level 1 and 2 qualifications include:

  • Dealing with customers in a polite and friendly manner
  • Meeting customer expectations
  • Communicating well with people professionally
  • Representing yourself and the business you’re working for in a good way

You can also learn GCSE Maths and English functional skills.

Job skills that you learn include:

  • Working effectively in a team
  • Meeting and understanding what your employer expects
  • Excellent ICT skills
  • Getting yourself ready for job interviews

What can you do after Work Ready Extra?

Throughout Kent, employers are welcoming young people into the workplace who are work ready. One happy Work Ready Extra student, Peter Toombs, had this to say: “Many thanks to you and all of the team at KT&A for giving me this opportunity.”

At the end of your training, you will have grown in confidence, have achieved an NVQ, and achieved functional skills and/or GCSEs in Maths and English. It is from here that you can either go onto full-time employment, an apprenticeship, or go into further education.
