Roseacre Junior School are looking to recruit an Apprentice to work with a specific class in the mornings and with various classes and year groups in the afternoons. The work will initially involve small group and individual teaching.

The successful candidate will be given all the relevant support to enable them to fulfil their duties and complete the Apprenticeship course.

The main duties are:

  • Assist the teacher with learning activities. Support the pupils in accessing learning activities as directed by the teacher to enable pupils’ progress towards their targets.  Be aware of and support differences to ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Be aware of, and comply with, policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security and confidentiality reporting all concerns to an appropriate person to ensure pupils’ wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the overall work/aims of the school and appreciate and support the role of colleagues and other professionals to enable the school to fulfil its development plans.
  • Undertake training and other learning activities and attend relevant meetings (within contracted hours) as required to ensure own continuing professional development.


£4.30 per hour

The school may be able to offer a higher rate depending on the calibre of the candidate.


Monday – Friday (term time only)

8.45 am to 3.15 pm, with a paid 15 minutes break in the morning and a half hour unpaid lunch break, 30 hours paid per week

20% paid time during working hours is given to complete training, referred to as “Off the Job Training”

GCSE 4-9 (A-C) or equivalent in Maths and English


On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – Teaching Assistants work in Primary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Additional Detail

As of 1st April 2021, the NMW for Apprentices is £4.30 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
