DESCRIPTION OF VACANCY
Would you like the opportunity to work in a lovely, friendly primary school with a wonderful community feel and strong Christian ethos? We are looking for a Teaching Assistant apprentice to join our team to provide class support as directed by our Class Teachers and Senior Leadership Team.
- Be allocated to a class/ classes/child by the SLT
- Provide in class support as directed by the Class Teacher or SLT;
- Assist pupils to manage their tasks within the allocated time, using differentiated resources where appropriate;
- Raise standards of learning by discussing with the pupils what the expectations of the task are, and whether they think they have achieved these expectations;
- Discuss pupil progress with the class teacher and suggest ways in which standards of learning can be improved;
- Undertake such routine administrative work as may be required by the class teacher/s/SLT and contribute to the care and cleanliness of the learning environment
- Deliver interventions to accelerate pupil progress;
- Build positive relationships with children, colleagues and parents/carers
- Administer basic first aid as required;
- Manage a pupil’s medical needs – including toileting – as directed by the SLT;
- Undertake lunch/playtime supervisory duties as directed by the SLT
- Undertake training and development opportunities as required
- Have due regard to confidentiality, child protection procedures, Health and Safety, acceptable use policy and other statutory requirements and policies of the Local Governing Body and the Trust
- To undertake any duties which may be reasonably given by the Head Teacher or the SLT from time to time
Hourly Wage: £4.50
Working Week: Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week term time
only 8:45 – 3:15
20% paid time during working hours is given to complete training, referred to as “Off the Job Training”

Minimum GCSE grade 9 – 4 (or A – C) in both English and maths.
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – Teaching Assistants work in Primary, Special and Secondary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress.
Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
As of 1st April 2021, the NMW for Apprentices is £4.30 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
