The Thinking Schools Academy Trust is a successful family of schools that work together to improve the life chances of all its children and young people.  Our Trust currently consists of 16 schools, 11 Primary and 5 Secondary, based across the Portsmouth, Medway and Deal areas. This position will be based in Medway at the Trust Central offices at New Horizons Children’s Academy.


Description of Vacancy

Working as part of the Marketing & Communications team, the post holder will be responsible for producing high quality design content across printed and digital marketing channels including social media, Trust and school specific publications in line with branding guidelines.

Purpose of the job

Working as part of the Marketing & Communications team, the post holder will be responsible for producing high quality design content across printed and digital marketing channels including social media, Trust and school specific publications in line with branding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curation, collation and creation of relevant and engaging design content
  • Meeting brand guidelines and promoting the importance of adhering to brand guidelines
  • Organise and supporting the development and distribution of the ‘Our Trust’ publication three times a year
  • Attend Medway School/Trust events and ensure high quality photography
  • Adhering to GDPR guidelines
  • Monitor and update social media platforms and ensure a flow of high quality and informative content
  • Work with Academies and Trust managers to provide a variety of marketing materials throughout the academic year
  • Placing merchandise and marketing collateral orders including distribution
  • Monitor performance of marketing activities and campaigns in order to inform and improve future campaigns
  • Monitor competitor developments and innovations
  • Act as the ‘Communications Champion’ for the Medway schools, working closely with the counter-part in Portsmouth to promote flow of good news articles
  • Trust website administration – adding news content

General Responsibilities

  • General administrative duties such as ordering stationery and answering phones
  • Build and maintaining excellent working relationships with PAs, office managers, Headteachers and SLT and by keeping in regular contact via e-mail, telephone or in person, offering advice, solutions and information
  • Monitor the communications inbox
  • Develop excellent working relationships with TSAT central managers, staff and teams
  • Occasional other duties may be required

  • Support Trust ethos and vision in the wider community
  • Support with the administration of Trust incentives and events


  • Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the workplace
  • Understand and apply Academy policies
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals
  • Support ethos and vision of Academies in their wider communities.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.


£185 per week, working 37 hours per week (£5 per hour)


We will be looking for someone who can work Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.

Skills Required

  • Basic understanding in the use of design software to produce printed and digital marketing collateral
  • Good communication skills
  • Establish effective working relationship with Managers and colleagues
  • Ability to be extremely accurate, detailed and confidential and able to work to tight deadlines, under pressure
  • Ability to learn quickly, be organised and identify and suggest changes to processes
  • Good computer skills
  • Good writing and editing skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload effectively
  • Customer care procedures and best practice
  • Knowledge of Data Protection and confidentiality

Qualifications Required

GCSE A – C or equivalent qualifications essential.

GCSE in Marketing or Art Design GCSE desirable but not essential.

Training Provided

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Additional Detail

As of 1st April 2018, the NMW for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
