East Cliff Practice is a busy GP surgery and training practice in Ramsgate serving around 16,000 patients. We are a friendly team whose priority is to provide a caring service for our patients. We are dedicated to team working, communication and development and training.

We are looking for a conscientious and reliable person to join our friendly and professional reception team. This is an interesting role for someone wanting to begin a career in customer service or health care.

Key Duties:

Dealing with patients’ and other enquiries personally and by telephone

Making appointments using the EMIS Web computer system

Receiving requests for repeat prescriptions and processing electronic prescriptions.

Utilising E-consult and texting services

Completing tasks via EMIS and answering clinicians’ queries

Keeping reception and waiting areas tidy

Sign-posting patients to most appropriate service / appointment type.

Ensuring all messages are passed on and received as appropriate and in line with protocols


£4.50 per hour

£166.50 per week


37 hours per week over 5 days

Surgery opening times are 8am – 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am-10.30am Saturday

7.5 hours per week will be allocated to complete learning

20% paid time during working hours is given to complete training, referred to as “Off the Job Training”

GCSE Grade 4 to 9 (or Grade C or higher) in English and Maths or equivalent qualifications in these subjects.


On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – Customer Service Practitioners have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike; from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector. The role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving customer services. Customer Service Practitioners develop key skills and behaviours to support their own progression towards management responsibilities.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.


Additional Detail

As of 1st April 2021, the NMW for Apprentices is £4.30 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.

Important Information
