We are pleased to be able to offer an apprenticeship within Foundation Stage for a Teaching Assistant.

The Foundation Stage Teaching Assistant will be a member of a team responsible for the education and care of children in the Foundation Stage classrooms and will work towards being involved in planning, preparation of activities and evaluation of the EYFS curriculum in accordance with the aims and objectives of the school whilst meeting the statutory obligations as required by OFSTED.

The Foundation Stage Teaching Assistant apprentice will be a member of a team responsible:

  • Promote the Skills for Life Trust values, culture and ethos, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide support to children
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with academy policy
  • Under the direction of the Class Teacher implement children’s learning in groups or individually
  • Undertake record keeping in respect of children’s learning in order to support the teacher
  • Work as part of a team and assist the Class Teacher/SENCo to ensure quality education for the children
  • Ensure the continued safety and well-being of children during independent learning, breaks and lunchtimes
  • Help with care, personal hygiene and medical needs of children to include intimate care such as changing nappies.
  • Uphold standards within the setting by adhering to all policies and procedures
  • Strive to safeguard children by working to the Trust’s safeguarding Code of Conduct
  • Liaise with and support parents/carers and other family members with the support of the Class Teacher
  • Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc.
  • To respect the confidentiality of information received at all times
  • To actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring policies and procedures are observed at all times

Will also consider applications for a level 3 apprenticeship.


8.30 am to 3.30 pm Monday to Friday

30 hours per week

30 minutes (lunch)


£124.50 (@ £4.15 as of 1 April 2020).

This is a term time only post and therefore the salary is pro-rata across the whole year.


  • The ability to manage and structure time effectively and efficiently
  • Basic ICT skills to support administration
  • The ability to relate effectively to a diverse range of children and adults
  • The ability to deploy a range of strategies and techniques to encourage learning


  • The ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team of professionals
  • Good communication skills, oral, written and electronic
  • The ability to act as a positive role model for children and parents/carers


GCSE grade ‘C’ (or equivalent) or above in English and mathematics

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.


Additional Detail

As of 1st April 2020, the NMW for Apprentices is £4.15 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
