Zoe started out working in Gravesham Borough Council as a Traffic Warden and then progressed on to her current role as a Customer Services Officer. She decided that she wanted to further her skills and career by completing an Apprenticeship and would one day like to be in a managerial role, following in the footsteps of her friend who also started out as a Traffic Warden and is now Director of Housing within the Council.

Aged 48, Zoe wanted to prove to herself that you are never too old to learn and to overcome her fears of sitting an exam to complete her Maths GCSE.

During her Apprenticeship Zoe unfortunately caught covid and was hospitalised, however Zoe says: “It was there I found out I had passed my Maths and I thought I was hallucinating”.

Zoe believes the knowledge she has gained on her apprenticeship has taught her how to deal with customers better and given her confidence in her role.

Zoe enjoyed her Apprenticeship so much that she wants to encourage others to look in to starting one as she says: “No matter what your age if you believe in yourself, you can achieve things you never thought you would be able to. Yes, it was challenging at times, but I surprised myself with how well I have done which makes me feel very proud”.

The Apprenticeship has given Zoe the confidence and extra skills to work in her current Customer Service role and she would now like to work her way up to working as a manager within Gravesham Borough Council.
