Paulina Saliyuk joined KT&A as she felt that her GCSE grades were not good enough for her to go on to further education so she needed to find a job. KT&A explained to her that the Work Ready Extra programme would help her find a place on an apprenticeship, where she could be in paid employment whilst learning new skills and gaining the qualifications that she was lacking.
Whilst on the Work Ready Extra programme, Paulina undertook a 12 week work placement working in business administration at Shepway District Council and gained a recognised qualification.
Paulina said “I was happy with this because it was the job role I was interested in, and I also achieved a Level 1 in Customer Services which not only gave me another qualification but I also gained more skills.”
As well as doing her work placement, Paulina also took functional skills lessons to try and gain better grades in maths and English, and improve her future job prospects. She had never enjoyed maths before but with the help and patience of her tutor Adam, she started to understand and answer the questions much quicker and with more confidence.
Paulina eventually achieved Level 1 in maths. “After a lot of hard work, I have achieved my Level 1 maths and I am so happy because I never thought I would be able to get to this level. I have the confidence to go for Level 2 now!”
After completing her 12 week work placement, Paulina was offered an apprenticeship with Kent County Council.
Of her time learning with KT&A, she said “I made an excellent choice deciding to join KT&A as I have not only improved my skills but gained an apprenticeship and received support along the way.”
“Without KT&A I would be without support and unemployed.”
