February’s Apprentice of the Month – Hayley Forsdyke

February’s Apprentice of the Month – Hayley Forsdyke

Our Apprentice of the Month award returned in February, and we’ve had some superb nominations. This gave employers around the county a chance to reward their Apprentice for all of their hard work and dedication by putting them forward for a chance of winning a £20 cinema voucher, as well as receiving recognition from us. February’s prize was awarded to Hayley Forsdyke, who works in a Business Administration for the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in Ashford.

Hayley only started her Apprenticeship with CCG in January, so to be nominated and win the award for February shows that she has clearly settled in and made an immediate impression on her Manager, Catherine! When we asked Hayley how much she knew about Apprenticeships beforehand, she said “I knew of them and their benefits for someone starting their career, but didn’t really know too much other than that.” Her reasons for applying for the Apprenticeship with CCG were that she had always been interested in working for the NHS, and an Apprenticeship was a great way to get her foot in the door. An Apprenticeship also meant she could learn about the roles of everyone in the organisation, whilst building skills and knowledge in her own role.

Hayley said she enjoys everything about her job, but she particularly enjoys “getting to see a wide range of what CCG do, and it’s really interesting to hear about my Manager Catherine’s role”. This general knowledge of what everyone in the business does is what Hayley felt she has most improved, as well as her knowledge and performance of her Business Admin Support role. Hayley said she would recommend an Apprenticeship to anyone. “They’re definitely worth it, it’s a great way to learn and work at the same time.”

We usually like to find out what our winners’ career plans are after their Apprenticeship, but as Hayley only started in January she’s focusing on the rest of her Apprenticeship, but she definitely wants to work in the same type of job.

We then spoke to Hayley’s manager Catherine to find out about her experience of having an Apprentice. This is the first time the Ashford branch of CCG have taken on an Apprentice, so they didn’t have any prior experience to base their expectations of an Apprentice on. Catherine expected Hayley to need a lot of support at first, but she was pleased to find to find that Hayley really didn’t. “We had a one month plan set out for Hayley’s workload, which she completed within 10 days! She’s been a brilliant asset.”

It was a small team that Hayley joined in January, and according to Catherine she has stepped up from the beginning and delivered a fantastic amount of support to all team members, including helping with the completion of pre-registration tariff for university placements for primary care, and helping to plan “practice learning time afternoons” which is a responsibility that she has already taken over herself!

It was great to hear that Hayley has impressed Catherine and everyone at CCG so much that they are currently looking  to take on another Apprentice, and Catherine has already recommended Apprenticeships to her friend’s daughters.

Congratulations to Hayley for being chosen as our latest Apprentice of the Month. Do you have your eye on this month’s award? Make sure you ask your Manager to fill out our quick and easy nomination form before Sunday 30th April.
